Every year during the first week of September Basque provinces organize week-long events dedicated to the local culture. This week is called Euskal Jaiak. In cities and villages, locals compete in traditional sports, perform Basque songs and dances. At numerous fairs that fill neighborhoods with delicious flavors, one can try products from the nearby farms. In San Sebastián during this week also occur the rowing regatta Flag La Concha, cross on Mount Urgul, sea swimming competition and the competitions in traditional sport Pelota Vasca. Also, there are open-air screenings of films by local directors, Basque poem-readings on the street by actors from local theaters and, of course, sounds of the traditional Basque flute everywhere. Members of local gastronomic societies compete in the mastery of Basque cuisine – just cooking Cantabrian fish dish "marmatako" is worth a lot! Hurry up and get familiar with the program of events to see all the fun.
