The Birthplace of the Basque Country’s First Pear Cider

His bold decision to focus on pear cider proved a resounding success. It was here, at Araeta, that the Basque Country’s first pear cider was born. Pear trees were brought from France, took root in the estate’s orchards, and produced their first harvest in 2017. Today, both the pear and apple ciders are exported abroad carrying the traditions of Basque cider making far beyond the region’s borders. The restaurant’s interior has a contemporary design yet with elements that preserve the warm and welcoming atmosphere of a traditional country house. One of its most innovative features is a system of transformable 3D dining rooms: thanks to movable architectural structures, the space can be quickly reconfigured to suit different events and capacities. In addition to lunches and dinners, Araeta regularly hosts private celebrations and corporate gatherings. The complex accommodates more than 400 guests, and its wedding calendar is often booked many months in advance. A true highlight of Araeta is its eight-hectare garden. Ancient olive trees stand alongside graceful weeping willows, creating a landscape of exceptional beauty and tranquility. It is a place where both adults and children feel at home, with a dedicated playground already in place and plans underway for a covered indoor play area. Among Araeta’s greatest culinary treasures is its traditional wood-fired oven. Here, some of the most beloved dishes of Basque and Spanish cuisine are prepared, including roasted lamb, suckling pig, kid goat, and mutton. Culture also plays an important role in the life of Araeta. Throughout the year, the venue hosts open-air summer concerts, live music evenings, and themed events. Thanks to its excellent technical facilities, Araeta has repeatedly welcomed internationally renowned performers, including C. C. Catch and Chambao.
