Musical Fortnight festival (Quincena Musical de San Sebastián)

The first evenings of classical music in San Sebastian began back in the 1940s in order to expand the cultural program for city guests during the summer season.  At that time, local choir and Grand Casino orchestra took part in the concerts as well as European musicians who took refuge in the Victoria Eugenia Theater during World War I.  Every year the number of events and their diversity increased and then turned into a two-week music festival in August (from which came the name Quincena Musical de San Sebastián).  Nowadays, the festival lasts almost a month during which more than 90 performances take place within 11 different cycles such as opera, ballet, large symphony orchestras, modern composers, promising local musicians and children's programs.  Concerts are held at the Kursaal Palace of Congresses, Victoria Eugenia Theater, Miramar Palace, churches, monasteries and theaters in the city and surrounding areas.  Tickets can be purchased at the box office of the venues as well as on the official festival website: www.quincenamusical.eus.  20% discount is available for people who purchase a season subscription.
